Job Description
About us Symbolica was founded on a simple idea: intelligence is about structure and reasoning, not just pattern matching. For decades, AI has been split between symbolic systems that are reliable but brittle and neural systems that are flexible but unpredictable. We’re building a bridge between the two. We’re an AI research lab combining deep mathematics and machine learning to create systems that truly reason. Using category and type theory as a unifying framework, we develop interpretable, reliable and scalable foundations for intelligence and turn them into real products, working in a tight feedback loop where research directly shapes application. Agentica is the latest expression of this vision: an agent framework for tool use and multi-agent orchestration through arbitrary code execution. It recently achieved 85.28% on ARC-AGI-2, setting a new public SOTA. Founded in 2022, we’ve raised over $30M from investors including Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst, Abstract Ventures and Buckley Ventures, backing us to rethink the mathematical foundations of machine learning. If you’ve ever been kept awake wondering what comes after deep learning, you’ll fit right in. About the role As a founding Lead Frontend Engineer, you will design and build a highly technical interface for deploying AI systems. You’ll take ownership of rapidly building and iterating on functional prototypes for real-world use cases, ensuring seamless end-to-end integration across the stack. You’ll also work closely with our research team to create interactive interfaces that bring agentic systems to life. Your focus • Own and develop a vision for how developers discover, onboard, build, and scale applications with Symbolica's new flagship product. • Design and implement intuitive, responsive, and visually polished UI for complex systems, with a strong emphasis on usability and accessibility. • Partner with product and design to translate abstract concepts into clear, elegant user flows and interactive experiences. • Build, test, and iterate on functional prototypes based on real user needs. • Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product leads to turn ideas into polished features. • Create and maintain a consistent design system and reusable frontend components that balance aesthetics with performance. • Debug performance issues and run A/B tests to continuously improve UX. • Attend developer events and workshops to introduce, prototype, and teach technical audiences how to build and deploy complex multi-agent systems. • Translate this external feedback to build user empathy and advocate for developer experience internally. About you • Excellent at translating complex ideas into simple, beautiful, and highly usable UI/UX. • Proficient in TypeScript and React. • Equally passionate about design and engineering – you care as much about visual polish, accessibility, and interaction design as you do about clean, scalable code. • Comfortable prototyping quickly and shipping production-ready code. • Experience collaborating with designers or directly owning design systems, style guides, or user interface patterns. • Experience working on machine learning and/or AI projects is a plus. • Experience building scalable, data intensive web apps, including RESTful APIs and GraphQL. • Passion for writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code. • Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset to work across diverse teams. What we offer • Competitive salary and early-stage equity package. • A high-trust, execution-first culture with minimal bureaucracy. • Direct ownership of meaningful projects with real business impact. • A rare opportunity to sit at the interface between deep research and real-world productisation. 📍 This is an onsite role based in our SF office (345 California St).
