As a senior technical engineer you will design, develop, implement and support infrastructure solutions for the group in alignment with corporate business and IT strategies, ensuring an appropriate balance between functional service quality and system management requirements. This necessitates engagement with internal and external stakeholders while taking full responsibility for the implemented solutions and operational availability of production infrastructure. In this role you will: • Develop IT solutions that meet customer requirements. Ensure that the design is robust, appropriate and of high quality, conforming to corporate standards and in line with the technical strategy. • Ensure that the developed architecture/solution meets the service level requirements in terms of expected availability, capacity, continuity, security, performance and reliability. • Develop solution architectures for assigned projects with the established enterprise architecture standards and support the development of technology advancements and adaptation of new technologies. • Collaborate with other IT technology teams to implement ongoing monitoring of the relevant technology to ensure level 1 and 2 incidents are configured within EMS. • Guide project manager/technology team managers for solution definition, technical design and development of in-house developed solutions. These are to be delivered as per agreed costs and timescales to meet signed-off functional, technical and process requirements. • Ensure that assigned incidents are resolved within the agreed service levels and problems are defined and analysed in line with the problem management process. Ensure that solutions to problems meet the architectural and security standards within the technology area and that impact on the business is minimised. Own and manage changes within the technology area. • Publish and maintain high-quality documentation and data catalogue for the technology area. Work within the standard templates and documentation guidelines which includes detailed design, configuration details, support procedures, operations manuals and deployment architecture to ensure data accuracy, accessibility, and governance across systems. • Manage end-of-life replacement of equipment and/or software within the technology area to ensure conformance to technical standards and support the technology initiatives and directions. • Ensure the process and enhancement specifications are translated into effective programs with error-free code using the enterprise development tools, methods and languages. Qualification To be considered for this role, you must meet the below requirements: • Degree or honours (12+3 or equivalent) in a relevant field such as computer science, computational mathematics, computer engineering or software engineering. • 5+ years working in a related IT engineering role. Knowledge and skills • Expertise in engineering and maintaining scalable, resilient, and high-performance database platforms to support enterprise applications and workloads. • Strong understanding of Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) principles, including on-demand provisioning, lifecycle management, and automated scalability. • Proficiency in implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management practices to standardize database deployments, ensuring repeatability and compliance. • Knowledge of service catalog development and management for databases, enabling self-service provisioning, automated lifecycle management, and governance capabilities. • Experience in integrating database platforms with cloud management systems and orchestration tools, facilitating automated deployment, scaling, and policy enforcement. • Understanding of auto-healing and self-remediation techniques, ensuring database stability, performance optimization, and minimal downtime. • Ability to lead database automation and optimization initiatives, collaborating with DevOps, security, and infrastructure teams to align database services with enterprise IT strategies.
